'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Loved Ones of Missing Teens Await Answers After Alpine Blaze
The relatives of teenagers lost after a devastating inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an painful period of uncertainty for confirmed information and appealing for any details about their family members via social media.
The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed images depict the ceiling catching alight as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have warned that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. A spokesperson said on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with the process ongoing to name the remaining few.
In the meantime, loved ones have been taking to online platforms to request any news about their loved ones who were in attendance that evening.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his family.
The who lives of Lutry near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she stated.
She added that some of his companions had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced hell."
The Italy's government has indicated that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, who hailed from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "young athlete who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a official announcement of his death is awaited.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend said they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators said, "I remember his kindness and positive demeanor, combined with great maturity. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has published an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the case.
