Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer suitable to speak out against the Trump presidency, fearing it could intensify unhelpful debate and increase separation across the country.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Lawrence

Speaking with media, Lawrence commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars fail to influence at all on who people vote for.”

The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she supported John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she recognized during the Obama era that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a woman.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she stated that a Trump victory would be “the end of the world” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “since I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend reproductive rights.”

Celebrity Views

The star was supported by numerous celebrities in her rejection of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by his election win.

“Another four years feels different,” said Lawrence regarding his administration. “Because he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a new mother who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. At a press conference for the film in the film festival, the star spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Broader Concerns

Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation now. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”

She attempted to refocus frustration about the situation to leaders rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the recent commitment endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Personal Connections

Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her role in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in Die, My Love. Even though the director has denied the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, the actress said that she did relate to elements of her film narrative after the arrival of her youngest child, soon after production wrapped.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she explained, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a medication called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it really helped.”

Career Moments

Lawrence also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.

“It’s refreshing,” she said, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
